tw: nsfw text / mental illnesses / trauma mention

⚠️disclaimer: despite having flags, hyperromanticism and hypersexuality are NOT sexualities, they are symptoms of mental illness, trauma and/or neurodivergency⚠️

do not trust definitions from Pinknews or the "purple-red scale", since these two claim hypersexuality is a sexuality and not a symptom.

PLEASE READ THIS FAQ TOO !!

hypersexual

Exceedingly high sexual desire, extremely frequent or suddenly increased libido.

Hypersexuality is known to present itself as a symptom in connection to a number of mental and neurological disorders.

Several neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, autism, various types of brain injury, and many more neurodegenerative diseases can cause hypersexual behavior.

It can also be linked to traumatic experiences.

It can lead to the hypersexual individual to feel sexual desire towards people they are not attracted to (due to gender, age [usually older individuals] etc.)

hyperromantic

Exceedingly high romantic desire. It can be caused by neurodivergency, mental illness or trauma. Some asexual people experience hyperromanticism as a way to balance their lack of sexual attraction (not all ace people, dont assume its like that for everyone! this usually happens when asexuality is caused by trauma/neurodivergency/mental illness aswell.)

It might feel like the opposite of aromantic in most of the people.

It can lead to the hyperromantic individual to feel romantic desire towards people they are not attracted to (due to gender, age [usually older individuals] etc.)

*some definitions are outdated but the point is the same

hyperplatonic

This hyperattraction is not necesarily because of trauma, neurodivergency and/or mental illness, but it can be caused by it. This type of attraction can be experienced without it being caused by something else, but rather just a part of a regular attraction increased.

It can lead to the hyperplatonic individual to feel platonic attraction towards someone they shouldn't be attracted to (due to gender, age [usually older individuals] etc.)

hypersensual

This hyperattraction is not necesarily because of trauma, neurodivergency and/or mental illness, but it can be caused by it. This type of attraction can be experienced without it being caused by something else, but rather just a part of a regular attraction increased.

It can lead to the hypersensual individual to feel sensual attraction towards someone they shouldn't be attracted to (due to gender, age [usually older individuals] etc.)

hyperalterous

This hyperattraction is not necesarily because of trauma, neurodivergency and/or mental illness, but it can be caused by it. This type of attraction can be experienced without it being caused by something else, but rather just a part of a regular attraction increased.

It can lead to the hyperalterous individual to feel alterous attraction towards someone they shouldn't be attracted to (due to gender, age [usually older individuals] etc.)

hyperqueerplatonic

Not exactly an attraction, but an hyperdesire of queerplatonic relationships.
This hyperdesire is not necesarily because of trauma, neurodivergency and/or mental illness, but it can be caused by it. This type of desire can be experienced without it being caused by something else, but rather just a part of a regular attraction increased.

It can lead to the hyperqueerplatonic individual to feel queerplatonic desire towards someone they shouldn't be attracted to (due to gender, age [usually older individuals] etc.)

Is this an excuse for inappropiate sexual/romantic/etc. attitudes?

No, there is no excuse for inappropiate attitudes of that sort. If the person experiencing hyperattraction finds themself in that situation, they have to get help immediately.

Is hypersexuality a sexuality?

No! its a symptom of mental illness, the flag is made to spread awareness and normalize the fact that hypersexual individuals exist and they are not a threat or "deviants"
I stated all of the less common attractions can be something controlled by the person and not necessary a symptom of anything, but romantic and sexual hyperattraction are always strictly generated by trauma/mental illness/neurodivergency because the nature of alterous/platonic/qplatonic/sensual attraction is to be lighter than sexual/romantic attraction

Why is the hypersexual definition longer than the rest?

Romantic, platonic, sensual, alterous and queerplatonic attraction is not really looked into by science because, relating to health, attraction is not split [yet]. The split attraction model has [not] been used to look into health issues yet, simply because hypersexuality is a lot easier to study and talk about than the rest of these terms. This carrd is made to spread awarenes.

Is hyperattraction something you can control?

It depends on each individual, but it might be something very hard to stop, so i suggest being patient if someone experiences desire or attraction towards someone they shouldn't (unless it falls onto inappropiate sexual/romantic/etc attitudes, see first question)

Is it inherently lgbtq+?

No (except hyperqueerplatonic because queerplatonic is lgbtq+ only), its part of your attraction but it can be also because of neurodivergency/mental illness/trauma, so it might be experienced as a cishetallo person (it falls under the allo umbrella).

Is this identity fluid?
It can be, but not in all cases.

Are all hyperattracted individuals polyamorous?

As hyperromantic myself, i find comfort in that label, but some people are monogamous too.

How is the discrimination against these groups called?

In most cases, ableism or sanism. It can also just be homophobia, depending on the case, but specifically talking about hypersexual and hyperromantic as labels for symptoms of a mental illness, neurodivergency or trauma, its totally ableism. There's no "hyperphobia" or anything like that.

Can aspec people experience hyperattraction?

Yes! It has to do with the intensity of the attraction, not only the frequency of it, ace hypersexual individuals might experience increase of libido, PE, but they are still not attracted sexually to anyone.
